Play Like a Girl

I’m so excited to announce my first themed mini sessions for July 16th 2019

“Play Like a Girl” minis

Do you have a girl in your life who is a fierce competitor and loves to be feminine? These pictures show off both sides. You don’t have to choose! Being girly does not make you less of an athlete!

Relaunch

So Just Don’t Blink has been on hiatus this past year while my family focused instead on welcoming our new family member and settling in to life as a family of six. Upon reflection, it has become clear that the business model I was using before was simply not practical for me with our already demanding schedule. I’ve been brainstorming and I’m really excited for my new format. For the next few years I will not be taking individual sessions except on special dates. I will have two designated family session dates per year and then various fun themed mini sessions as well and will also be taking events on a case by case basis (call me for birth photography!) I’m so excited to streamline this process both for myself and my clients. I think it will be fun! I’ planning some really fun mini session themes for this summer so stay tuned!

Milk Bath Sessions

So I've been dying to try my hand at milk bath photos for a while now and last weekend I got my chance! I'm so in love with how they came out. It's amazing how something so simple can create such an ethereal and whimsical effect. This little guy was so smiley and sweet. I'm hooked now! I can't wait to do more and to do maternity and even MORE creative sessions as well! Please contact me if you have any interest and let me talk you into booking one!

Lifestyle Photography

I love lifestyle photography. The purpose of this photography genre is to capture people how they are in their own, organic, environments. The primary goal is to tell stories about people's lives or to inspire people to find beauty in their every-day.

Gritty Love

This is my very first time editing like this and I loved it. Definitely not for the faint of heart and not for my every day but it's so nice to break out from the norm and for Abbey and Jo I think it's perfect.

How the Edit Makes the Image

I think most people assume photography is just point and shoot. I constantly hear "wow that's a great picture, what camera do you have?" and while the camera is an important tool it's just the canvas... or the paintbrush..? It's a tool, it's not the artist. you can make great images no matter what "box" you're using.

Beyond that, so much of what we do is done after the fact. There are photographers who shoot pictures and hand over the memory card afterward, completely unedited. That's called "shoot and burn" photography and it's perfectly acceptable if that's what you're looking for, but that's not what I do and here's why...

There is so much that can be accomplished with post processing. Just a few minor adjustments can change the entire mood of a photo.

This is SOOC (straight out of camera) ISO 800 F3.5 1/30

Very cute picture of a very cute kid but definitely feels unfinished.

Quick Clean edit/ Soft edit

I'll edit this way for sneak peaks sometimes just to give a client an idea of what the pictures look like. I have a preset made and can do this edit in less than a minute but its not a completely polished look.

Light and Airy Edit

This is a popular way to edit. The subject is cooler and bright but not too cold. it feels natural but ethereal.

Dark and Moody

This is a really trendy way to edit but if you're not careful it just ends up looking underexposed.

Soft Pink Light

Whimsical and sweet. My dream is to find a lilac farm to shoot at and add violet and gold light. DREAM BIG

Matte Edit

This style is also really trendy right now, it actually has been for a little bit. the flat, velvety shadows can be really romantic and are popular for engagement announcements and even some weddings.

Black and White Edit

I really think Black and white can make just about any image look sophisticated. It's so classic.

Many photographers develop a signature style or visual voice through their edits and it becomes their calling card. I haven't been able to choose. Which style is your favorite.

Filtered Light

Some of my favorite subjects seem to appear out of nowhere. I drive this road every single day but the light yesterday was amazing. The green image is what it looked like through my camera, exactly. I did no editing. With the help of my kids though we made some fun changes. Which one do you like best?

I'm going to be listing Metallic prints of these images on my Etsy page if you'd like a copy for your home, or you could contact me with your request.
